Problem

Heart disease, cancer, diabetes and stroke are most often caused by poor nutrition, obesity, lack of physical activity or tobacco use – or some combination of those factors. Most of these diseases are preventable. But right now they cost $26 billion per year, and cause three out of every four preventable deaths in North Carolina.

Very overweight workers submit TWICE as many workers’ compensation claims, have SEVEN TIMES more medical costs, and miss THIRTEEN TIMES more work days than employees at a healthy weight. Unhealthy workplaces make employees sicker, which costs employers more for health care and lost productivity.

2. Whether you’re an employer, broker or other 3rd party insurer, see a list of all preventive health benefits offered to employers in N.C. (www.ncpreventionpartners.org/ preventivebenefits). Free.

3. Workshop for employers, businesses and others to network and learn best practices for reducing tobacco use, poor nutrition and physical inactivity (www.ncpreventionpartners.org/institute). Attend and gain free access to the Prevention 1st Challenge and other great NCPP resources!

4. Shows where prevention in N.C. needs to get better, and offers recommendations for employers, providers, legislators, schools and individuals. Statewide report card is available online (free). Local report cards can be sponsored!
