2012 Intern Testimonials
Jazmine Gantz, Spring 2012
This semester I spent my time interning with the Philanthropy/Development team as well as the Working Well (SC) team. This experience allowed me the opportunity to use the skills I have attained during my Master of Public Health program as well as develop new skills that I can use in my professional career. During the months I was at NC Prevention Partners, I was given the opportunity to lay the groundwork for the development of an NC Prevention Partners Community; a network that will allow former and current interns to come together with other colleagues within the organization to establish networking and career building opportunities. The plans and ideas I left behind will be used to further develop, and eventually launch this community network. I also had the chance to participate in the planning and presenting in some o f the web based presentations created to distribute evidence based strategies to SC hospitals. I also developed case studies of two SC hospitals that were model facilities for other hospitals. The case studies will be included in the respective toolboxes and act as a guide for other similar hospitals by providing a step by step framework of how they too can implement some of these things.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at NC Prevention Partners and would encourage anyone interested in an internship to consider coming here. It is such a friendly environment and interns are given the opportunity to gain hands on experience in the field of Public Health. I don’t know where my career path will lead me but I am certain that the invaluable experience I gained as an intern at NC Prevention Partners will always stay with me.
Sarah Hart Fishburne, Spring 2012

During the spring of 2012, I worked as a full-time intern on the Schools Team at NC Prevention Partners. I helped research, create, and maintain a number of resources and visual tools to be used by our partners, and assisted with communications projects, webinars, and grant proposals. I created a detailed map, a presentation check, and progress reports to recognize progress made by NC schools and districts using InDesign, and edited videos documenting our trip to Surry County Schools in February. One of my major projects was developing the NCPP Community, which will connect former and current interns, staff, and board members in support of the work of NCPP and one another. I now have a better understanding of organizational operations and change, health communication, and remote electronic education. I learned a number of new skills that, as a recent college graduate, will serve me well as I begin my career in public health and healthcare. NCPP is such a welcoming environment and I immediately felt I was a part of the team. I so appreciate how supportive all staff and interns are of NCPP’s mission and each other’s work. It has been an incredible experience and I feel fortunate to have such a solid foundation to stand on as I make my next steps. NCPP is an organization I will continue to support throughout my life and career.
