Jim Long: lifetime supporter of NC Prevention Partners

None of us will forget the passing of our dear friend and family member, Jim Long. He was a founding member of NC Prevention Partners. He was a champion for prevention and one of the first elected officials to speak out about the importance of tobacco-free and other important prevention policies. He gave generously of his time, and supported us with his wisdom, strength, political savvy and unmatched sense of humor - even in the toughest times.
To honor Jim, NC Prevention Partners created a named award, given annually for individual achievement. It recognizes efforts that reach the highest level of prevention excellence, a bar that he set very high. Click here to see Jim Long Awardees.
The Jim Long Fund
The first annual event to benefit the Jim Long Fund was held on June 2, 2011, at Peg O’Connell’s home in Raleigh. Friends and supporters gathered to celebrate Jim’s years of dedication to prevention and to affirm what NC Prevention Partners will do to carry forward Jim’s legacy. We are happy to report that more than $10,000 has been added this year to the Jim Long Fund. The fund supports an annual Policy Fellowship focusing on the intersection of public health and public policy. Our goal is to grow the fund to a level of $200,000, which will ultimately fund public health policy internships at NC Prevention Partners in perpetuity.
Please consider a gift to the Jim Long Memorial Fund. Your gift will help support the public health policy leaders of tomorrow, all-the-while continuing Jim's legacy and commitment to the wellbeing of all North Carolinians.
