At the federal level, we are working to enable Veterans Affairs Medical Centers to be 100% tobacco free campus wide by repealing a federal law requiring them to have smoking facilities on their campuses. The VA medical centers would join all other North Carolina hospitals in becoming tobacco free, and North Carolina would become the first state to have all its hospitals 100% tobacco free campus wide.

At the state and local level, we support legislative priorities of the NC Alliance for Health (NCAH), a coalition of individuals and organizations advocating for tobacco and obesity prevention policies. As a founding member of NCAH, we recognize that evidence –based public policies are essential to prevention and health.

Jim Long Policy Fellow

We announced our first ever Jim Long Policy Fellowship this year, named for the late NC Insurance Commissioner and prevention advocate, Jim Long. This fellow will work on major policy projects and will facilitate the expansion of NCPP’s policy role and policy committee. Danielle Schramm was selected as NCPP’s 2012 Policy Fellow.
