Healthy Policies

Healthy policies save lives. NC Prevention Partners is dedicated to communicating progress on state and national chronic disease prevention policies to its partners, members and colleagues.

We support key legislative priorities of the NC Alliance for Health (NCAH), a coalition of individuals and organizations advocating for health improvement policies at the state legislature. As a founding member of NCAH and current Executive Committee representative, we play a critical role in shaping innovative and evidence-based health policy in North Carolina. Priority areas are tobacco and obesity prevention.

In 2005, we helped make the case for the first cigarette tax increase in years. From 2006 - 08, we fought for all state government buildings to be smoke free and to restore local government authority to make municipal government buildings smoke free. In 2009, we helped protect all restaurants and bar workers from secondhand smoke and are working with all health insurance plans in North Carolina to prioritize prevention in their benefit packages.
