AHA Names Peg O'Connel Advocate of the Year

Peg O'Connel, immediate Past Board Chair of NC Prevention Partners, has been awarded the 2011 Dr. Robert Blackburn Award for Advocacy Excellence by the North Carolina American Heart Association Advocacy Coordinating Committee. Ms. O'Connel is a Senior Advisor for Government and Legislative Affairs at Fuquay Solutions.
A founding member of the NC AHA Advocacy Committee, Ms. O'Connel has served over twenty years with the American Heart Association in numerous roles including participating in lobbying and fundraising events,education campaigns, and a coach for new advocates.
Ms. O'Connel said of being recognized, "I am honored to volunteer with the American Heart Association and to play a small part in the important work they do. This recognition of my service means a great deal to me. I am especially honored becuase this volunteer recognition award was named for Dr. Bob Blackburn-he is a personal hero of mine and a man committed to improving the health of North Carolina."
Ms. O'Connel currently volunteers as the Representative for the Justice Warren Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Task Force and is a member of the North Carolina Advoacay Coordinating Committee.
