NC Prevention Partners’ Quit-Tobacco Team met the Working Well SC staff, based out of the SC Hospital Association, and representatives of South Carolina hospitals to learn more from premiere North Carolina hospitals working on wellness for their employees.

We’re excited to be touring with South Carolina hospital representatives from Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Baptist Easley Hospital, Hilton Head Regional Medical Center, and Clarendon Health System. We first convened for dinner at Shatley Springs, a family style old-time North Carolina mountain restaurant.

On Wednesday, June 29th,we were greeted by R.D. Williams, CEO at Ashe Memorial Hospital, and Sherry Cox, VP over Human Resources. We toured the cafeteria and learned more about how they earned the Red Apple award by adding lower-priced healthy options and increasing nutritional labeling.

Hospital staff also shared information about earning the Gold Star, meeting the highest standards for providing benefits, resources, and a tobacco-free environment. Adding quit medications at no cost to is one way Ashe Memorial fully supports their employees in quitting the use of tobacco. Ashe Memorial Hospital is a beautiful small hospital set right in the mountains. They were great high-country hosts. We pushed off headed south toward Caldwell Memorial Hospital.
