Sandhill residents suffer from more chronic disease and have shorter life expectancies than North Carolina state averages, according to County Prevention Report Cards released by NC Prevention Partners. The county report cards, issued in collaboration with FirstCarolina Care Insurance Company and FirstHealth of the Carolinas, Inc., focused on the health of residents in five Sandhill counties: Moore, Scotland, Hoke, Richmond and Montgomery.
“Implementing policies, such as tobacco free workplaces and healthy food options in our work places and schools, that support good health can improve the wellbeing of individuals, the productivity of employees and can make our counties more attractive for economic development,” said Ken Lewis, President of FirstCarolinaCare Insurance Company. “The recommendation section in each county report card gives some clear steps for what can be done to improve the health of our communities,”
