Join the Tobacco-Free Hospitals Campaign:
Implement Best Practices Related to Tobacco-Free Environments, Staff and Patients

The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene wants to help every hospital implement best practices related to:
  • Employee cessation programs,
  • In-patient assessment and treatment for tobacco use, and
  • Out-patient assessment and treatment for tobacco use (under development).

CAMPAIGN GOALS
The NYC Tobacco-Free Hospitals Campaign aims to improve employee and patient systems related to tobacco screening and treatment at all hospitals in the city.  By participating in this campaign, your hospital will achieve national standards of excellence and compliance with the:
  • Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Meaningful Use Measures related to tobacco use
  • New Joint Commission Tobacco Treatment Measures

JOIN THE CAMPAIGN
During this campaign, you will be given access to an online assessment that will allow you to evaluate your campus and environmental policies, as well as your hospital’s policies, benefits and systems which assist employees and patients in quitting tobacco. Your assessments will be confidential. You will receive tailored recommendations and action plans and access to resources to help you improve your services.

The Health Department will provide your hospital with a license for the tobacco-free module of WorkHealthy AmericaSM and the Patient Quit Tobacco System developed by NC Prevention Partners.
