Thomasville City Schools leads the way toward school wellness
For many people, January means trying to lose weight, eat healthy and get more exercise. In January 2009, the Thomasville City School District kicked off their plan to get their schools involved with wellness efforts they learned at NC Prevention Partners'(NCPP) Zone Health Youth Obesity Prevention Program. The Thomasville City Zone Health Team hosted a wellness fair for all school faculty and staff to provide valuable information about nutrition, exercise, and health management, and to recruit school staff to build Zone Health teams at their schools.
"Our enthusiasm for wellness is driven from the top leadership on down," explains Mary Jane Akerman, District Wellness Coordinator and Zone Health Team Leader for Thomasville City Schools. "Our superintendent and school board strongly believe that you must educate the whole child; that health is essential for learning and learning is essential for health." Click here to read more….
