What is the Prevention Academy?
The Prevention Academy brings together NC Prevention Partners, Chambers of Commerce, wellness leaders and local businesses that are committed to establishing a strong wellness environment for their community.
Starting in 2010, NC Prevention Partners has held community Prevention Academies to bring hospitals, schools, private businesses and local wellness leaders to move the needle on effective wellness policies and environments.
What is WorkHealthy AmericaSM?
NC Prevention Partners has spent over a decade working with hospitals, schools and health organizations to help them to improve their wellness policies and benefits, and see meaningful improvements in employee health.
Now we are bringing these tools to private businesses. WorkHealthy AmericaSM is our signature wellness improvement tool, and is designed to help businesses of any size and in any sector to improve their wellness environment.
WorkHealthy AmericaSM is NC Prevention Partner’s proprietary worksite wellness product that enables a company to take a confidential, on-line assessment and benchmark their current wellness activities against scientific standards. The areas of focus are Nutrition, Physical Activity and Tobacco environments, and establishing a leadership culture of wellness. WorkHealthy AmericaSM generates automatic report card grades, tailored action plans, and access to online toolboxes with evidence-based and real world policies, programs, tools, and case studies from companies of all sizes. Companies can track success by retaking the assessment to capture updates to their grades and compare their wellness practices to companies of the same size, geographical area, and sector.

What size employers can participate?
WorkHealthy AmericaSM was designed, created and tested with businesses of all sizes, so small, medium and large employers are welcome. The toolboxes feature resources from companies of all sizes. Even a small employer who has no wellness staff person or any current budget dedicated to wellness can join in if the company is committed to learning what works, and to work towards building wellness resources as a company priority.
What do businesses do to get started and over time?
- Complete pre-work by taking the WorkHealthy AmericaSM Assessment and getting baseline grades.
- Attend the one-day kick-off training session to map out action planning (2 executives are recommended to attend).
- Receive the WorkHealthy AmericaSM e-letter to be kept up to date on upcoming webinars, to learn about progress among their classmates, and to share their stories.
- Attend periodic webinars and participate in e-learning to support their action plans.
- Members will retake the WorkHealthy America
What will happen to the data that companies submit?
The information will be confidential to the employer. NC Prevention Partners will compile and share aggregate information from the WorkHealthy AmericaSM database to help paint a picture of the health of North Carolina’s work force, and to drive other employers into worksite wellness initiatives.
