North Carolina Prevention Report Card
A Progress Report on Prevention & Health in North Carolina

Making Lunch Football Vegetables

Smoking rates among North Carolina adults did not decline in the past year. However, teens smoking dropped considerably. Too many North Carolinians are overweight or obese and not getting enough physical activity, which puts millions at increased risk of preventable heart disease, cancer, diabetes and stroke.

There are currently 1.5 million adult smokers (a rate of 22.9%). Two-thirds of adults and one-third of children are overweight or obese, and one in four adults gets no physical activity at all.
